Indoor Air Quality Testing

Indoor Air Quality Testing: Ensuring BREEAM Compliance and a Healthier Built Environment

Our in-house team of site services specialists has extensive experience in conducting post-construction Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) testing to meet the rigorous standards of BREEAM HEA02. Post-construction inspections are critical to ensuring the safe occupation of new or refurbished buildings by minimising health risks and supporting the achievement of essential BREEAM credits. With a deep understanding of the strict methods specified under BREEAM, our efficient and professional testing processes and detailed reports have helped hundreds of clients secure these credits, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of their projects.

What does our post construction testing involve?

As outlined in the BREEAM Standards, we typically test for formaldehyde and Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) in the air, but we can also include other pollutants if required. In accordance with BREEAM specifications and the initial Indoor Air Quality plan, we will carefully select testing locations based on occupancy rates and room design. This approach ensures that the post-construction testing report meets all necessary criteria and is approved and validated by the BREEAM assessors, helping you secure the relevant credits.

As standard practice, our team of site service specialists will make sure that all testing at post completion stage is carried out in accordance with the precise BREEAM HEA02 methods.

Prior to conducting post-construction testing, our expert team will liaise closely with the on-site project team to provide guidance on creating the optimal environment for testing and assess whether the building is ready. This crucial step helps ensure a successful outcome and reduces the need for additional site visits or retesting, avoiding the extra costs that may arise from re-inspections. Through proactive communication, we help streamline the process and increase the likelihood of a first-time pass.

Our Testing Standards – Conducted with Comfort and Precision

  • BS EN ISO 16000-3: 2001 – Formaldehyde and other carbonyls in air by pumped sampling.

Benefits of Our Post-Construction Testing for VOCs and Formaldehyde;

Our post-construction testing for VOCs and formaldehyde offers several additional advantages:

  • Proof of Compliance: Our reports verify that the building has acceptable levels of VOCs and formaldehyde at the time of project handover.
  • Confirm Compliance with BREEAM HEA02: Our testing confirms that your project meets the BREEAM HEA02 criteria, and upon successful completion of testing, we provide verification of the credits awarded, ensuring your project achieves the necessary sustainability and health standards.
  • UKAS Testing Standards: We ensure full adherence to UKAS standards referenced in BREEAM, ensuring your project complies with stringent quality controls.
